They did the same with StarCraft II, where you can't play online with just the base game + older expansions as well. They tried to pack it into fluffy clouds. If you read the patchnotes of the last patch, they wrote that RoC BNet is "disabled" of course that means that it could be enabled with Reforged again but I think it's just bad wording from Blizzards side when they actually wanted to say that it's closed because of it's outdatedness. Basically the situation that we have right now will be permanent. We don't know for certain but the most likely scenario is that it plays out something along the lines of: RoC campaign and single player for Reforged will be working, but since TFT more or less is the continuation of the storyline and 95% of all players are there, they keep patching the game, etc. Also, maintaining a Reign of Chaos server isn't an option either, as its cost would be too high. What came out of our conversation is that the disabling of Reign of Chaos multiplayer is, unfortunately, not going to be temporary. I've talked to one of Blizzard associate producers a few days ago, seeking for answers to the aforementioned questions. Furthermore, I also think there's not enough interest from part of the contestants, who would slow down the whole event even more (match schedules wouldn't follow the pace I first had in mind replacements should be applied). To me ladder practice is simply essential, and I can definitely see some players not being able to perform as they could without it. The $550 tournament is going to be cancelled as well, as the required conditions to make it proceed aren't really matched. Secondly, the very last sentence, paired up with the fact that this is listed under "specific changes and improvements", makes me interpret it as a nice way to force people away from Reign of Chaos to embrace the expansion pack. Is there any hotfix ETA? Is this going to be addressed only with Reforged? First off, because of the lack of any relevant information related to the issue, considering the big impact it has on our small community. A major benefit to this change is players who owned Reign of Chaos only now have The Frozen Throne.I can't say I've really been satisfied with the given explanation. Custom maps created with RoC data are still playable, this affects melee only. Dev Comment: We've been encountering non-trivial issues connecting players over as we unify the game client - a prime example being disconnects caused by erroneous matches between Chaos and Throne.
